Job Description

Job Overview

Three things sit with this role: knowing what every project and account actually earns, keeping cash moving, and getting us cleanly through the audits our bank clients put us through. Today each of those runs on spreadsheets and individual memory. You will turn them into systems that produce the same answer every month without anyone chasing it.

This is a hands-on operator's role in a lean company. You will work as closely with delivery leads and account managers as with the books.

What you will own

1. Project and account-wise MIS and P&L

  • Build and own a P&L for every project and every account — revenue, direct cost, delivered margin — reported on a fixed monthly cadence.
  • Own the costing model behind it: resource cost allocation, blended rates, utilisation, bench absorption, infrastructure and licence costs attributable to each engagement.
  • Produce the monthly management pack: account-wise and stream-wise performance across builds, resourcing and AMC, with variance against plan and against the commercials we signed.
  • Track revenue recognition correctly across contract types — milestone-based builds, T&M resourcing, annuity AMC — including unbilled revenue and deferred revenue positions.
  • Surface the decisions the numbers point to: where we are underpricing, where scope was delivered but never billed, which accounts carry cost we are not recovering.
  • Standardise the reporting layer — move MIS off ad-hoc spreadsheets onto a system that holds up as headcount grows.

2. Working capital: receivables, payables and cash

  • Own the rolling cash flow forecast and the working capital position end to end.
  • Drive the order-to-cash cycle: PO coverage before work starts, milestone certification, timely and accurate invoicing, dispute resolution, revenue leakage.
  • Own collections and DSO — ageing reviews, escalation paths into client finance and procurement, and the discipline to chase before an invoice ages rather than after.
  • Manage payables with intent: vendor terms, payment scheduling, negotiation on renewals, and consolidation of overlapping spend.
  • Own banking and treasury — account relationships, surplus deployment, working capital facilities, and forex exposure on overseas receivables.
  • Give the founder a reliable answer at any point to: what is owed to us, what we owe, and what cash looks like over the next quarter.

3. Client-driven audit and assurance

  • Own the quarterly and annual audit obligations our bank clients impose on us as a vendor, end to end — scoping, evidence collection, response, closure of observations.
  • Run the calendar so audits are anticipated, not reacted to: know what each client asks for, when, and in what format.
  • Assemble and maintain the standing evidence pack — audited financials, net worth and solvency documentation, tax compliance certificates, insurance, vendor due-diligence questionnaires, empanelment renewals.
  • Coordinate across finance, delivery, HR and infosec so a single audit request does not become six uncoordinated threads.
  • Track observations to closure with named owners and dates, and make sure the same finding does not recur next cycle.
  • Support RBI outsourcing and vendor-governance expectations our clients pass down to us.

How success will be measured

  • Project and account P&L published on schedule, and trusted enough to make pricing decisions on
  • DSO and collections against target
  • Cash flow forecast accuracy
  • Client audits closed within the client's timeline, with no repeat observations
  • Unbilled and revenue-leakage value, trending down
  • Delivered margin visibility and improvement by account

What we are looking for

Essential

  • 5+ years in finance, with meaningful time in financial operations, controllership or FP&A at an IT services, software or professional services firm.
  • Demonstrated ownership of project-level or account-level P&L in a services business — utilisation, bench, blended rates, delivered margin. This is the core of the role.
  • Hands-on ownership of the order-to-cash cycle with results on DSO and collections.
  • Experience handling client-side or external audits: running the evidence process, answering auditors directly, closing observations.
  • Strong Excel and reporting discipline; comfortable building the MIS layer before an ERP exists.
  • CA, CMA, MBA (Finance) or equivalent.
  • Comfortable in a lean, unstructured environment where you build the process before you run it.
  • Able to hold a conversation with a bank's procurement, finance or audit team without escalating every question.

Preferred

  • Experience serving BFSI clients, where vendor onboarding, audit and payment cycles are long and document-heavy.
  • Exposure to export of services, forex receivables and related documentation.
  • Experience implementing or migrating an ERP or accounting system in a growing firm.
  • Familiarity with RBI outsourcing guidelines as they apply to technology vendors.

What we offer

  • Full ownership of financial operations in a profitable, bootstrapped business, reporting directly to the founder.
  • A real seat in commercial decisions — pricing, deal structure, which business we take and which we walk away from
